What Is Free Kindy?
Thanks to the Free Kindy initiative from the Queensland Government, eligible children in Queensland can now access free kindergarten – giving your family peace of mind and your child a strong start to school.
At Piptree, our Kindy program is fully approved under the Free Kindy scheme, so you can enjoy 15 hours per week of high-quality kindy, for free.
Who Is Eligible For Free Kindy?
Your child can access Free Kindy if:
✅ They turn 4 years old on or before 30 June in the year they attend Kindy
✅ They are enrolled in a government-approved kindergarten program – at Piptree we meet all the standards required for Free Kindy funding!
That’s it – no complicated means tests or extra paperwork. As long as these criteria are met, your child qualifies for Free Kindy.
What You Get – 15 Hours Per Week of Quality Education
With Free Kindy at Piptree:

Your child attends 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (a total of ~600 hours) – the standard funded program.
- All classes are delivered by qualified early childhood teachers, following a play-based, school readiness curriculum, giving your child the best foundation for Prep and beyond.
- Families only pay for any extra “wrap-around” or extended hours beyond the 15 free hours. If you’re eligible for the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), that can cover additional childcare costs.
Can I combine Free Kindy with Child Care Subsidy (CCS)?
Yes, if your family is eligible for CCS, you can use it to help cover any additional childcare hours beyond the 15 free Kindy hours.
What if my child attends Kindy for more than just the funded 15 hours per week?
That’s fine – you can still attend extra hours, but only the funded 15 hours are free. Any “wrap-around” or extended hours are subject to regular fees (with possible CCS support).
Do all children in Queensland qualify?
Yes – as long as they meet the age requirement and attend an approved kindy program. The funding is not means-tested.
